On expedition
Amigos do need some baggage to help the organization on its way to agility. For that, we have developed the AMIGOS Model. It is well filled with vision, instruments, tools, game forms and examples based on knowledge and experience from practice. Your ideal travel baggage, which gives you inspiration, insight and structure so that you can continue the change on your own.
Have you already decided to be an Amigo? Then join us on an expedition with the AMIGOS model and/or broaden your horizons through our training program.
AMIGOS MODEL
AMIGOS stands for Agility, Mindset, Inspiration, Growth, Organization and Sustain. These are 6 islands that you can visit on your journey to Agility and together form the basic structure of the AMIGOS model.
Agility – an agile way of working
On the island of Agility you will learn more about an agile way of thinking and working as a basis for everything else you will do on this journey. This is your anchor point, your hold. Using six basic values and ten principles for Agility, we will lay the foundation for an agile mindset that will help you make yourself and your organization more agile. You will also learn how to use agile in the change process towards agility. By working agile, you will discover why your organization is still insufficiently agile and then work on it step by step. In this way, you will shape the change process as you go.
Mindset - an agile culture
On the Island Mindset, you will gain insight into creating an agile mindset and culture on board. This is especially important when the current culture causes the organisation to just not want to become more agile. When old ways of thinking, habits and beliefs get in the way and the organisation and its crew struggle to be flexible and adventurous, this island is a good place to go ashore. You will find various tools for changing culture, mindset and behaviour.
Inspiration - the desire for agility
Is your organisation struggling to leave the safe harbour? Could your organisation use some inspiration and clarity on where the journey is going and why? On this island, you will find sources of inspiration to help you set inspiring goals and create a change story that creates a sense of urgency and an enticing destination for the entire crew. You will also find more on leadership in change.
Growth - an agile crew
An important aspect of an agile organisation is to create an environment where there is room for growth, development, freedom, creativity and work happiness of the crew. An environment where people with all their knowledge and skills are seen as the most important resource the organisation has to deliver value to customers. An agile crew that continuously learns is at the heart of this island. If it is a challenge for your organisation to retain your crew, keep them happy and continuously grow and learn, you will find beautiful treasures on this island.
Organisation - an agile structure
To be agile, you need a simple organisational structure and agile governance. Is your organisation’s challenge to reduce unwieldiness and inertia caused by internal complexity and bureaucracy? Then come ashore here and learn how to transform your organisation from a big tanker that is difficult to turn around, to a light ship that can easily change direction. On this island, you will find design principles for agile organisational structures and light forms of governance around self-organising teams.
Sustain - remaining agile
All these changes only make sense if they are also permanent. You don’t want the organisation to fall back into old patterns and ways of working the moment it comes under pressure. You want to move towards an agile organisation capable of continuous improvement, learning and discovery on its own. Amigos, the friends of change, play a central role in sustainable change. On this island, you will find more about creating, inspiring, training and coaching Amigos.
YOUR OWN ROUTE TO AGILITY
Which islands in the AMIGOS model you touch determine yourself. What do you need on your way to agility? What challenges are you facing?
On each island you will find treasures in the form of knowledge, examples and insights that will help you and your organisation become more agile. It is not so much the content of the treasure chest that matters, but what you do with it!
On every island, you can also leave ballast behind. These are the things you want to get off board, because they hinder your journey to agility. Think of too many processes, procedures, functions and other forms of bureaucracy, as well as too much or unsuitable crew. Yes really, though of course you hope that is not necessary.
Both bringing in the treasures and getting rid of ballast are of value in making your organisation agile. How exactly to do this can be found in our book Expedition agility.
