The transition criteria
It is quite challenging to determine the transition from the old to the new organization-wide setup. A good practice is to determine the criteria for transitioning to the new situation together with the group of change enthusiasts, how to approach it, and when it will happen.
- Organize a workshop for the responsible change enthusiasts.
- Explain the importance of a clear transition moment.
- Brainstorm the possible criteria for transitioning to the new situation.
Think of: is the new mindset and way of working well described, available, and applied by a few teams? Is there a new organization chart? Are the teams set up according to the team setup principles? Are the new roles described? Is the housing in order? Are enough Amigos trained to support the organization in the change? Is the Works Council involved?
- Avoid too many hurdles by formulating a minimum set of criteria. Ask the question: which criteria are prerequisites before we can transition to the new situation?
- Provide the minimum set of criteria with a colored sticker.
- Brainstorm what needs to be done to meet these minimum criteria. Set actions together and make a plan. Also, think about how the transition moment will be set up and communicated.
Evaluate with a fixed frequency how far you are in meeting the transition criteria. Explicitly ask how much confidence those involved have in transitioning to the new setup.
