Scaling models
To collaborate in a rhythm, it is necessary that the teams have a somewhat uniform way of working based on principles for agility. It doesn’t work if one team follows a waterfall approach and the other an iterative Scrum approach. For this reason, many organizations choose to scale the agile way of working across all teams involved in product development. Scaling means the focused collaboration of multiple teams needed to deliver the same product. It is then essential that they form one whole. A team of teams, so to speak. It’s like having a bunch of small boats that together form one big boat – everyone must row in the same direction!
For this agile methodology across teams, several models have been developed, known as scaling models, which assist organizations in this process. Well-known examples include SAFe, LeSS, Scrum@scale en het Spotify-model Part 1 en Part 2. The latter, however, was not originally intended as a scaling model but is used as such.
