Focus board
To keep an overview of initiatives and which strategic goals they contribute to, use a focus board at the strategic level. A focus board is a visual presentation of ongoing initiatives per quarterly goal. It shows concrete milestones indicating when which value is delivered. A focus board is used for regular, for example, weekly, adjustments. This involves a short meeting focusing on identifying and removing obstacles that hinder teams from delivering the intended value. Additionally, decisions are made on what should or shouldn’t be delivered if the original goal is at risk or if other initiatives have gained higher priority. Each initiative is assigned an owner to ensure there is always someone to provide feedback on the status. This allows for 52 adjustments a year, making many other meetings and progress reports unnecessary. That reduces ballast.
