Dreaming at full sea

It’s wind force six, the sails are full, and I can smell the salty sea air. We’re on our way to the next port with our ship full of valuable cargo. Here, we’ll meet one of our customers, who is eagerly awaiting their order. As we sail, I gaze at the horizon, reflecting on our journey. We have grown tremendously; the entire crew has grown. Every crew member intuitively knows what the needs of our customers are, often before the customers themselves know. In the last port, we received high praise from a customer who admired our ability to change course easily and our creativity and adaptability during storms or calm periods. That we still have fun together and deliver the right things on time, even under difficult circumstances was greatly appreciated. This thought put a smile on my face. What the customer told us was precisely what we were striving for. Without realizing it, we had achieved our goals. Sometimes you need others to hold up a mirror.

At the start of a change program, it’s good to know why you’re doing it. Take a quiet moment to reflect on your change journey. Express your dream about how you want your customer to view your ship and crew. Then, together, create a single dream, a single story. This story will help your team and can be used in communication with the rest of the organization.
