Christmas gifts coordinator

An example of excessive control occurred during Christmas. An organization had decided  that the distribution of Christmas gifts to employees needed to be controlled. So, a coordinator was appointed to sit in the hall with a list of employees, checking off who had collected their Christmas gift. This was to prevent someone from picking up two gifts. This waste of time achieved nothing. In the end, there were still Christmas gifts left over. The lack of trust that the distribution would be fair led to unnecessary control mechanisms that cost the organization money and irritated employees. Meanwhile, the Christmas gifts were meant to thank employees.

Look at your organization through this lens. What examples do you see that illustrate a lack of trust and too much control? What would happen if this control were removed?
