Agile champion program
The journey toward becoming an agile organization is an expedition to an unknown destination filled with uncertainty, challenges, and discovery. The very agility you aim to achieve at the destination is essential during the journey itself. This calls for a crew that embraces change, travels together, learns from one another, and inspires others to do the same. Together, they embed change into the culture and structure of the organization.
To navigate this journey successfully, you need the right tools and mindset, the right baggage, to help you and your colleagues shape the new organization and way of working. So give your own development a boost and pack your bag with essential knowledge about organizational change. Through the Agile Champion Program, you’ll explore how to build a more agile structure and culture. You’ll learn to accelerate learning, improve continuously, and become more adaptable yourself.
This six-day program covers various aspects of transformation both in theory and in practice. Between training days, participants complete assignments together, allowing them to apply their learning directly in the workplace.
Topics covered in the program include:
- What is your role in the organization’s transformation, and how can you create meaningful impact?
- How do you bring others along and ensure lasting change?
- How do you bring structure to change?
- How do you adapt the organization’s culture?
- How do you measure the success of a transformation?
- What is the role of leadership in driving change?
- How can you combine all the elements into a transformation strategy and approach that fits your organization?
- What are the essential skills of an Agile Champion?
Participants will receive a copy of the books Expedition Agility and Agile Focus for Governance. Both books offer a solid foundation for the learning journey and are used for homework assignments and as ongoing reference materials.

Subjects of the days
Day 1: Fundamentals of Transformation
This is the kickoff of the Agile Champion Program, where participants get to know each other, the trainers, and the program itself. We explore the role of an Agile Champion — covering mindset, behavior, knowledge, skills, motivation, and personal leadership. The aim is to empower participants to become continuous learners who can navigate and embrace change — becoming agile themselves. Participants gain greater awareness of how they can increase their impact and develop a deeper understanding of agile organizations and the need for transformation. The foundation is laid for a transformation from A to B, in a truly agile way — and the crucial role Agile Champions play in this journey.
Day 2: Realizing Purpose
Participants discover why having a clear and inspiring purpose is essential in everything you do. Purpose provides direction, energy, and a sense of meaning — something people genuinely want to contribute to. Participants learn how to inspire and mobilize others through purpose — a key ability for Agile Champions. We also dive deeper into the role of the Product Owner. Product Owners provide purpose and direction to realization teams and work from a strong product vision. Participants learn several practical techniques to help Product Owners and their teams increase their impact within the organization. In addition, they will develop facilitation skills to effectively support collaboration between Product Owners, teams and other groups.
Day 3: Changing Leadership
Participants explore the evolving role of leadership in an agile organization. We dive into leadership styles suited to different stages of agile maturity, how to build trust and grant autonomy to teams and individuals, and how to align organizational goals from top to bottom. Participants will also develop mentoring skills, learning how to share knowledge in a way that fosters the growth and development of others.
Day 4: Autonomous Teams
Participants gain insights into the power of self-organizing, autonomous teams — the cornerstone of agile organizations. Autonomy drives engagement and accountability. This day also focuses on coaching skills. Team coaching is about boosting collaboration and helping teams become more effective by recognizing their strengths and addressing unhelpful interaction patterns. It’s all about supporting team members to work better together, communicate more effectively, and reach shared goals.
Day 5: Organizing Around Value
Participants learn to view their organization from multiple perspectives, enabling them to identify obstacles that slow down or block the shift toward a value-driven, agile organization. They learn to investigate root causes and find practical solutions that help increase organizational agility. Participants also explore how to scale team-level best practices across the organization, simplifying structures by removing unnecessary complexity. They are introduced to various (de)scaling frameworks and learn how to use them to design effective solutions. This day also builds training skills, enabling participants to train others in new ways of working in an attractive way.
Day 6: Organizational Transformation
Participants learn how to design and lead the transformation of an organization — or part of it. The content from the previous five days comes together as participants co-create a transformation roadmap. In groups, they work on a practical case study, applying the knowledge, skills, and techniques they’ve acquired. This day also covers critical aspects of change initiatives — both the visible, structural elements and the underlying cultural dynamics. Participants learn how to build support, deal with resistance, measure progress, and avoid common pitfalls. This day does not mark the end of the program, but the beginning of the journey in which participants carry forward the momentum of change. They explore the importance of forming and nurturing an Agile Champion community, enabling them to shape and sustain transformation together — and from within.
